Susan C. Fagan, Pharm.D., BCPS, FCCP

Dr. Susan Fagan

Dr. Susan Fagan has been a Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia, and adjunct Professor of Neurology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia since 1999. In 2007 she became Associate Department Head and Assistant Dean for the UGA pharmacy program at MCG and in August of 2008 was appointed Albert W Jowdy Professor of Pharmacy Care. She is the co-director of the Program in Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics at the University of Georgia and the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Prior to her position at UGA, she spent 13 years on the faculty of Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan where she rose to rank of professor. She received her BSc in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from SUNY at Buffalo. She completed a 2-year fellowship in Neuropharmacology at the Dent Neurologic Institute in Buffalo, NY after which she joined the faculty at Wayne State University. She is currently a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Heart Association Stroke Council and a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her research in stroke and is the current Chair of the Research Institute of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Dr. Fagan's research program is focused on the identification and development of new therapeutic strategies for acute ischemic stroke. Currently, her work focuses on vascular protection after acute stroke as an attempt to improve functional recovery. Her work is currently funded by NIH-NINDS, VA Merit Review, American Legion and Pfizer, Inc. Using both experimental and clinical approaches, Dr. Fagan's laboratory aims to improve the way in which stroke patients are treated.
